23 Feb What Are the Pros and Cons of Windows 10 for Businesses (Part II)?
In this two part blog series, we have been reviewing the pros and cons of Microsoft’s latest operating system. In Part I, we examined some of the pros and now, in Part II, we will look at the cons.
Cons
Forced Updates – Windows 10 no longer gives you a choice about updates, other than delaying them, which leaves systems vulnerable and is not a good idea, stopping the system from automatically restarting after installing updates.
Enabled Wi-Fi Sense – This feature is enabled by default and will automatically connect computers and devices to Wi-Fi hotspots. Businesses should disable this feature.
Default Privacy Settings – Windows 10 enables all privacy settings to “on,” and businesses will want to shut these off. In the “on” mode there are potential security and privacy risks.
Learning a New Operating System – People unfamiliar with either Windows 7 or Windows 8 are going to have a learning curve in finding where everything is located.
While there are drawbacks to Windows 10, most of these can be addressed during the installation of the operating system on individual computers, mobile devices, and desktop visualization environments, and by choosing to customize the features, rather than accepting the default settings.
