10 Apr Keep Offsite Employees on Track
Since the Internet makes it easier to hire employees without in-house attendance requirements, employers get to save plenty of money on overhead. On the other hand, they need to be able to make sure employees are doing their jobs and that they have the tools required to do the job. Things like virtual desktop hosting make it easy for employers to give employees the same tools that in-house employees have, while things like GPS make it easy to see if employees are where they should be.
Track: You can track your employees’ locations through GPS, but keep in mind that they don’t necessarily need to be in a specific location, in some cases. This feature should only be used if an employee is supposed to be at a specific location at a specific time, such as an in-person sales call. You can also track emails and messages to see when they are opened, so that you know if your employee is reading your messages even when they don’t respond to them.
Provide: Even an offsite employee should be provided with what they need to do their job. Virtual desktop hosting allows your employee to have the same tools you have in your office. They should not have to come up with their own computer to manage your work. At the same time, you should not have to worry about hosting your own virtual desktops for your employees. Outsourcing these functions to a company that can provide scalable solutions should be much more financially viable than managing your own servers.
When your employees have the right tools, and are aware that they can be monitored in real time, they develop more of a focus on their work. They don’t worry about these things, because they have what they need to work with, and shouldn’t have any issues with their location being monitored during work hours.
